Contraception is widely used and accepted in the United States—in fact, nearly 99% of women who have had sex have used birth control at some point in their lives. Even so, birth control is often a topic of policy and political debate. Some even conflate contraception with abortion. Most Americans—Republicans and Democrats alike—understand abortion and contraception are quite separate and wish that more policymakers also understood this critical distinction.
