Synopsis: Between 1988-2004, the U.S. pregnancy rate for teens aged 15-19 decreased from 111 pregnancies per 1,000 teen girls to 72 pregnancies per 1,000 teen girls in 2004. The teen pregnancy rate reached a peak in 1991 at 117 pregnancies per 1,000 and has been decreasing steadily for over the last decade. As the chart indicates, the teen pregnancy rate has also decreased between 1988 and 2000 (the most recent year for state specific data) in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
